| Many coffee people believe in order to create outstanding, well balanced blends, you need to use varietals from all the producing areas of the world. Since we work hand in hand with our specialty coffee farmers, we know exactly what our coffees taste like, and we also know you can find a world of flavor in East African selections. So, for this blend, we wanted a blend that would be well balanced with distinct fruit and soft chocolate notes. We tried several variations, but ultimately settled on a blend of two exceptional Kenyan coffees, and one very bright and fruity Ethiopian. Using two different Kenyan coffees provided a great base for this blend, as they are roasted to different levels, enabling us to bring out the best in each coffee. One Kenyan provides the rich, currant flavor with the almost maple syrup sweetness, while the other one provides the classic tangy notes we all recognize in a great Kenyan varietal. Adding the Ethiopian infuses this blend with subtle brightness, and a clean, fruity finish. We hope you enjoy Gitonga's Blend as much as we enjoyed creating it. |
